Your Opinions Matter and have been listened too! #Research in Action

Dear HCAs and qualified carers in Ireland,

As always we like to keep you updated with the important information which can change your career overnight or in steady time.

You (The HCA's and Qualified Cares of Ireland) have made an impact on the decisions made.

The Department of Health Published their "Report of the Strategic Workforce Advisory Group on Home Carers and Nursing Home Healthcare Assistants - September 2022".

To view the report, click on the photo of the report below.

The report used our first national study on Healthcare assistants and qualified carers, which was published right at the start of the ensuing Covid-19 Pandemic.

Our points on accreditation, development of role and professionalisation was evident in this report. The study was mentioned numerous times.

This report was authored by a group of non-biased groups -public sector and NGOs. The cross-departmental Strategic Workforce Advisory Group was established by the Minister of State for Mental Health and Older People, Mary Butler, in March 2022. The Group was charged with examining strategic workforce challenges in publicly and privately provided front-line carer roles in home support and nursing homes and with making recommendations to address these.

The Group, which was chaired by the Department of Health, comprised representatives from seven government departments (Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth; Enterprise, Trade and Employment; Health; Higher and Further Education, Research, Innovation and Science; Justice; Public Expenditure and Reform; and Social Protection), the Health Service Executive (HSE), the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) and SOLAS.

Some examples of your words, minds and voices can be seen below.

This is a landmark moment as this report is all about turning Research into Action, Recommendations have been drawn which the Department of Health will be putting into action with clear timelines (this can be found in the timeline scales in Appendix VII: Table of recommendations).

Thank you again to all who answered the Survey back all the way back then, as explained many months ago, Research when done well can make change, it is slow progress but is worth it, in every respect.

If we hear any other linked news we will be in touch!
